Assistant Manager, Tax & fixed assets
Job Purpose
Management of day to day tax compliance and computation as per legal statutes. Accounting and maintenance of the banks fixed and intangible assets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tax - 50%
- I-tax gateway reconciliation, payments, and remission of cash to CBK within the stipulated time (T+2).
- Review of all invoices on a monthly basis to ensure relevant taxes have been deducted & remitted.
- Monthly reconciliation of all tax ledgers and explanation/ remediation of any variances.
- Monthly reconciliation of withholding tax on deposits and documentation of variances.
- Monthly reconciliation of all TTs to ensure withholding tax on foreign payments & Reverse Charge VAT have been properly accounted for as per relevant tax laws.
- Ensure 100% remittance of all tax obligations. (Returns & payments) by the due dates. The tax obligations include VAT, Excise duty, withholding tax, stamp duty, advance tax, and PAYE.
- Understand the financial and operational implications of various tax laws and ensure compliance.
- Monthly reconciliation of all Tax ledgers.
- Perform monthly excise duty reconciliations vis a vis other incomes as reported in the management account.
- Ensure complete documentation of relevant support and proof of tax remittance. Assist with retrieval of information during audits by internal auditors, external auditors/consultants & KRA
- Tax management and ensuring zero leakage of revenue.
Fixed Assets - 40%
- Accounting for fixed assets and preparation of monthly movement schedules.
- Key contact person for internal and external auditors in relation to fixed assets & intangible assets.
- Preparation of financial notes in the audited financial statements.
- Coordination of asset verification exercise as per finance policy.
- Quarterly review of branch assets register and accounting for any movements or disposals.
- Constant monitoring of teammate audit items and timely closure of the open audit items.
- Snap checks on branches to ensure no obsolete/idle assets are retained there.
- Coordination of Mombasa building rent collection and accounting for VAT.
Customer management - 10%
- Ensuring that both internal (departments and branches) and external customer Tax and fixed assets queries are attended to within reasonable time.
- Being proactive in resolving queries in an effort to protect the banks reputation.

Knowledge; Skills and Experience required for this Role Job Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in taxation or accounting required.
- 5 years experience in a busy finance department
- Professional qualification in CPA (K) or in progress.
- Ability to prioritize and manage time efficiently.
- Good customer service skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
